About The FortrisCalendar Administration Area

The FortrisCalendar administration area is password protected to insure that only the web site's owner, will be able to add and edit events on their site. The administration area for this sample site is also password protected. If you would like "guest" permissions to take the administration area for a test drive and add a few of your own events, please contact CJ Peters at the email address on the bottom of this page, and let us know which of our FortrisAdmin applications you are interested in.

Below is brief outline that covers some of the features you will find in the FortrisCalendar administration area.

Calendar View

From the admin Calendar View page, you can review all of your events just as they would appear on the calendar page of your web site. The admin's Calendar View page also allows you to add a new event by clicking the "ADD" link next to each day number, or the "CLEAR" link, to clear all the events that begin on that day.

Agenda View

On the Agenda View page, you can add a new event simply by clicking on a date from the mini calendar on the left side of the page. Clicking on any of the events on the right, will take you to an "edit" page for that event where information can be added or modified for that event. Clicking the "Delete" link (on the far right of each entry) will instantly delete that entry.

Add Event Page and the Edit Event Page

There are a host of information options that can be added to any event. In addition to the name or title of the event and it's starting date, you can also add an "end" date for events that span across multiple days. The text color of any event can be one of four choices to help viewers see different types of events more easily.

Events can have an unspecified start time, a start time only, or a start and end time, if needed. In addition to an area for adding a full event description, there is a special area for "location" information. This optional area will allow you to link an events location information directly to third-party mapping and driving direction services, such as GoogleMaps, YahooMaps, and MapQuest.

An event can also be set to "repeat" automatically, for reoccurring events. Such as, "the first Monday of each month" or "every other Friday" etc.

Additional options include adding an external link to an event, in cases where you might want to provide a "for more information click here" type of link for an event. You can also attache a file (.zip format is recommended) or an image to an event. In most cases, uploaded photos and files are only available to the site visitor when viewing the "Agenda" or "List View" version of your calendar, as putting images in a calendar grid would make the calendar very large for most visitors computer screens.

The Bulk Erase Page and Bulk Add Page

These pages allow you to quickly add basic information about may events at once, or erase a whole month or specific date span's worth of events to help keep your calendar clean and quick. If hundreds of events are being added each month over the course of several years, you may want to delete certain past events. Doing so may speed up display times for your site visitor.

Fuse Repeating Events

Making an event automatically repeat on "the second Tuesday of each month" is easy to set up on the add or edit events page, but what if all the information for those different events is not the same? For example, if a meeting event's start time alternates between 5pm on some days, and 7pm on others... you would have to "Fuse" the event to the calendar, in order to edit each event individually. For example, if there is a meeting on the second Tuesday of each month for an entire year, and this was entered as a single repeating event... "fusing" the event would turn the single event entry, into many individual entries automatically, so that their individual information could then be edited.

General Display

In most cases, this area is set up by your site's developer and changes aren't necessary. However, this page controls aspects of the way your site visitors are seeing your calendar. You can set things like how long the "new" tag stays next to a new event, or turn the "new" tag off completely. There are also options for changing how many events the "Agenda View" will show to your site visitor at one time. For example, just one month can be shown, one week, or an entire year if you do not have too many events. The choice is yours. There are also a few date formatting options on this admin page, such as the decision on how a date is formatted and what punctuation and separator characters are going to be used.

Trends

There is a basic "page hit" type of tracker for the "Agenda View" and "Grid View" versions of your calendar, along with information about how many site visitors printed out a version of the calendar.

Preview Grid / Preview Agenda

You can preview the changes that your are making to the calendar at any time by clicking on one of the "preview" links. The formatting of the "preview" calendar may not match the final calendar on your site, but it will give you a good idea of what to expect. These pages allow you to preview the calendar without having to log out of the site, and visit the "front-end" publicly viewable version of the calendar every time that a small edit was made.

Can Various FortrisAdmin applications be combined on the same page?

Yes they can. In fact, most web site "Home" pages contain blurbs or teasers based on current content to lead the site visitor deeper into the site. For example, a mini preview calendar could be displayed in a side bar area, along with the ten most recently added photos from the FortrisGallery application. Clicking on any of the information in those "preview" side bar areas would lead your site visitor to a more detailed look at the event or photo they clicked on.
